Märke: Melini
Sangiovese di Toscana IGT
Grapes: 90% sangiovese, 10% complementary varieties.
Vineyard: well exposed vineyards, trained by the spalliera system (Guyot and cordone speronato) at a high density, relatively recently planted; the geographic zone is the hilly part of Chianti (350-400 metres altitude) between the provinces of Siena and Florence; the soil is varied (alberese, galestro, limestone marl, clay, conglomerates and alluvial deposits); the production of grapes per hectare is 100 quintals, with a yield of 70% wine.
Vinification: is by the red wine method, with about ten days maceration at controlled temperatures, and with frequent remontages for an optimum extraction of natural colouring matters (anthocyanins) and of “noble” tannins and to obtain more softness; the fermentation takes place at 25°C; the maturation is in small stainless steel tanks.
Wine: has a ruby red colour of exceptional intensity; the bouquet is very striking, with the fragrance of ripe grapes and distinct hints of violets and black cherries; the flavour is full, clean and savoury, soft but firm and attractively fruity; it is a particularly well balanced wine which highlights the characteristics of the grape from which it is made.
Optimum keeping: even though it keeps well, early drinking is recommended.
Food matches: savoury dishes, cured pork meats and white meats.
Serving temperature: 16°C.
