Märke: Conti Serristori
“Albergaccio” Toscana IGT
The Albergaccio is the ancient inn of S. Andrea in
Percussina, near San Casciano Val di Pesa, at the gates of Florence, where Niccolò Machiavelli ate his meals and played cards during his exile. Here the writer of “Il Principe” would have usually drunk the “Vino Vermiglio” of the last vintage, made from grapes from his land which, in due course, passed on, through marriage, to the Conti Serristori. The red wine which now bears the name of Albergaccio is the modern version of the traditional Tuscan
wine for early drinking.
Grapes: 80% sangiovese, 20% complementary varieties.
Vineyard: selected parcels in the neighbourhood of Sant’Andrea in Percussina, on wellexposed hills, at 300 metres altitude. The vines are trained by Guyot and spurred
cordon systems on various kinds of soil (alberese, galestro, marl and limestone and clayey schist), with a production of 80 quintals of grapes per hectare, and a 70% yield of wine.
Vinification: the grapes are vinified by the red wine method, with 10 days maceration and frequent remontages; the new wine ages in stainless steel until it is bottled.
Wine: ruby red colour, with crimson tints; vinous bouquet, fragrant with enticing hints of marinated fruits of the forest and suggestions of irises and violets; attractive, soft, fruity and very balanced flavour, with a pleasing, lingering aftertaste of blackberries and raspberries.
Analytical details: 11.80% alcohol; 5.07 g/l total acidity; 3.59 pH; 3.00 g/l sugar; 25.00 g/l extract.
Optimal keeping: 1-2 years in bottles stored horizontally in cool, dark conditions.
Food matches: cured pork meats; flavoursome first courses (ribollita), white meats and young Pecorino cheese.
Serving temperature: 16°C.
