Märke: Castello Monaci
KREOS
NEGROAMARO ROSATO SALENTO IGT
Not far from the town of Lecce and from the sea, on the road to Taranto, at the gates of Salice Salentino, centuries-old olive trees and luxuriant vineyards surround Castello Monaci.
The long corridor which links the main road to the castle is a line which goes through the estate, a meridian which divides the vineyards and opens the gates to the modern cellar. Here spreads the sun which floods the land with light and creates unique shapes, like the fruits to which it gives birth.
Castello Monaci. Drawn by the sun.
Kreos, from Eos, a figure of Greek mythology, goddess of the dawn, sister of Helios (the sun) and of Selene (the moon).
Every morning the goddess used to weep inconsolably for the death of her son, killed by Achilles during the siege of Troy, and her tears form the dew. Homer called her the goddess with the rosy finger because of the effect seen in the sky at dawn.
Grapes: 100% negroamaro
Vineyard: parcels cultivated on deep, dry limestone-clay-siliceous soil.
Vinification: the grapes are picked very early in the morning and are immediately taken to the cellars where they undergo a gentle pressing. There is a very short contact between the skins and the must, which is fermented at a controlled temperature in special steel tanks. The wine is bottled in the first decade of December.
Wine: bright pink colour; floral fruity bouquet; dry, full, elegant, clean flavour with a light aftertaste of fruit which lingers in the mouth.
Analytical details: 13% alcohol; 5.50g/l total acidity; 3.30 pH; 4,00g/l residual sugar; 23g/l dry extract.
Optimum keeping: to consume within the year.
Food matches: Italian hors d’oeuvres, savoury first courses, fish, white meats and young cheeses.
Serving temperature: 8-10°C.
