Sartiano, which is named after the first Guardians* of the Vineyards in Orvieto in the 13th century, is a red wine of excellent concentration and a very well balanced bouquet, elegant and complex, and with an enveloping and lingering flavour. The Sangiovese e Merlot grapes of Umbria are separately vinified and, after the malolactic fermentation, the new wine ages for about 10 months in French oak barrels and, afterwards, for a suitable period, in glass. Sartiano was born with the 2001 vintage.
*The task of the Custodians of the vineyards was to look after the progress of the work and the tufaceous rock of the ancient town of Orvieto, also called the Tenuta Civitatis.
