Chianti Classico DOCG
SOLATìO del TANI
Niccolò Machiavelli inherited this estate in Sant'Andrea in Percussina from his father, Bernardo di Boninsegna. It was here, in the Chianti Classico hills, that he lived out his exile from Florence in the early years of the 1500s. The estate was already producing wine at this time in the form of “Vermiglio”, a forerunner of the modernday Chianti, that was aged in the deep cellars of Casa Machiavelli.
Today’s Chianti Classico Machiavelli is obtained using modern winemaking techniques that fully respect the great tradition of this House.
Grape types: 85% sangiovese grosso, 15% other authorised varieties.
Vineyard: Plots owned or directly managed by the estate in the area surrounding Sant'Andrea in Percussina in the classic Chianti zone. The vines are Guyot- and cordon-trained and spurpruned and lie at an altitude of 300-350 meters on well-aspected slopes with a mixed base of alberese, marl and clayey shale. Production is 75 quintals per hectare, giving a 70% yield in wine.
Vinification: The grapes are harvested from September to October and fermented on the skins with around two weeks of maceration and regular pumping-over. Autolytic fermentation takes place at 25°C.
Maturation: The wine matures for one year in small and medium barrels of French oak, and for at least three months in the bottle before being released on the market.
Wine: Bright ruby colour; clear raspberry jam and violet aromas with strong hints of spice; full, forthright and balanced on the palate revealing an elegant backdrop of blackberry and almond that lingers at length on the palate.
Analytical data: alcohol content 13.00%; total acidity 5.25g/l; pH 3.40; sugars 2.40 g/l; extract 28 g/l.
Recommended storing: 5 – 6 years in bottles laid horizontally in a dark place
Serving suggestions: noble poultry, grilled meat, cacio pecorino cheese
Serving temperature: 18°C Tani era il nome del vignaiolo che si prendeva cura del Podere Solatìo, molto bene esposto al sole, nelle antiche tenute di Niccolò Machiavelli.
