VERDECA
SALENTO IGT
Centuries-old olive trees and luxuriant vineyards surround Castello Monaci on the road to Taranto, at the gates of Salice Salentino between the city of Lecce and the sea. The long corridor that links the state road to the castle forms a line that crosses the estate, a meridian that divides the vineyards and opens the way to the modern winery. The sun, permeating everything here, inundates the earth with light and creates unique forms, like the fruits that take life from it.
Castello Monaci: designed by the sun.
A land of sea, sun and wind, Salento enchants and fascinates: a magical place where the candour of the typical white stone creates original plays of light. Hence the name, Petraluce.
This Verdeca is a yellow-coloured wine with brilliant greenish flashes. Its perfume is intense but delicate with engaging hints of fruit and flowers. With its fresh, soft and persistent flavour it is excellent with hors d'oeuvres, risotto, crustaceans, grilled fish and traditional Salento dishes.
The grapes: 100% Verdeca
The vineyard: vines cultivated on spurred cordons on deep dry clay soil containing some tuffaceous limestone; the average yield per hectare is 9 tonnes.
Vinification: the grapes ripen in the second decade of September, are harvested mechanically in the early hours of the morning to exploit the cool of the night and are then taken to the winery immediately.
After crushing and soft-pressing, the grapes ferment at a controlled temperature in steel vats. The wine then ages on a bed of its own yeasts until the beginning of February and this is followed by bottling and further ageing in the bottle for about two months.
The wine: yellow-coloured with bright greenish reflections. The bouquet is intense and delicate with attractive hints of fruit and flowers while the flavour is fresh, sapid, soft and persistent.
Analytical data: alcohol 12.00%; total acidity 5.80 g/l; pH 3.40; sugars 3.0 g/l; extract 23 g/l.
Ideal conservation: 1 year in bottles on their sides in a cool dark environment.
Food pairings: hors d'oeuvres, seafood salads, risotto, crustaceans and grilled fish. Also excellent with traditional Salento dishes.
Serving temperature: 10-12℃.
