Sarpa, the bridge between the past and the future
This Grappa was conceived in my head in 1983, but it took a few years to see the light of day.
The goal was clear in my mind: a Grappa to encapsulate the aromas of Tradition, but without the typical defects of Grappas in the past, pungent, aggressive and oily.
It was to be an authentic Grappa, sincere and genuine, what I would now call a classic Grappa.
Moreover, it was to be a bridge between the Grappa of the past and the Grappa of the future, representing the present of Grappa with its best typical features.
It took some time to figure out which vines to use and after various tests I turned to the timeless Bordeaux blend, that mix of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot that has produced the best wines in the world, the Bordeaux wines.
These vines have successfully been grown in the Veneto region for a long time and it seemed to me only natural to use them and try to produce our symbol Grappa, the Grappa that was going to embody years of experience and passion, in a word, the ‘history’ of our family.
After a few distillation seasons I achieved the balance of character and elegance I had long been looking for.
Now the product was ready, we only had to give it a name.
I was lying on the sofa at home with my leg up, talking with my mother about the project, when a name flashed in my mind: Sarpa! A word very familiar to us in the Vicenza area. ’Sarpa’ actually means grape marc, i.e. the skins and seeds of grapes, the raw material from which Grappa is made.
I jumped up and said to my mother: we are going to call it Sarpa, a name that has a Veneto heart and will represent good Grappa all over the world, with the strength of the values it represents: truthfulness, simplicity, authenticity, naturalness.
Sarpa di Poli has a robust, almost rustic character, with pleasantly grassy scents that remind of freshly cut grass, an aroma of wine and red flowers like geranium, rose and violet that make it a timeless classic.
